The club fielded a rather small group of 10 paddlers for this event, but they all did their best to put up a good performance.
Divisions 7-9 singles were very well supported and as the organisers were concerned about the line-up at the start on such a narrow river, they divided each division into two starts .. Juniors and Seniors. A good way to split it but I feel they made a mistake in sending senior starts off in front of the juniors, particularly in division 9, where the juniors had to plough their way through most of the adults who started in front of them.
We were represented in Div 8 by Beata in the senior group , Georgia and Bex in the junor group. Beata led the senior race almost all the way and Bex was a close contender on the junior section with Georgia just behind. When the results (junior & Senior) were amalgamated the final positions were Bex 5th, Beata 7th and Georgia 13th.
James did his first marathon race for the club, and a good job he made of it ! Third place and promoted to Div 8. Will this be the beginning of a long and distinguished career ?
Phil & Glen were in an amalgamated 1/2 race, Phil was 2nd in Div1 and Glen 1st in Div 2. Both Jenny and Becky lost time at the portage but caught up incredibly with Jenny missing out on 3rd place by 3 seconds to come 4th in Div 4 and Becky 6th in Div 5. Nick led off the start ….. unfortunately had a bit of a swim at the portage after a misunderstanding from another paddler as to where to get out, he then dropped his boat and dislocated his thumb which meant no more race for him!. Steve in Div 6 came 6th, without a swim, a new trend which he intends to keep up.
Next LSE race is Maidstone 2nd June, details on the club notice , we need you to take part!!!!

We are delighted to welcome our newest young paddlers to the club. Ilker, Cameron, Finn, Joseph and Robert who completed the April Beginners Course. Three of the boys are pictured here with their Coaches, Di Lawler, Glenn Thorogood and paddler/helper Ross McMullen.
Many thanks to all the members of Elmbridge that helped run this event, as most of you will know it depends on many hands to run events like this. A high number of paddlers turned out for our 1st event of the year, hopefully everyone had a great time, at least it didn’t rain too heavily and the sun was present for most of the racing.
Well done to everyone who took part.
