On 30th September the National Hasler Final took place in Norwich.
All paddlers who qualified were looking forward to the big race day. Some of us travelled up to Norwich the night before to make sure they are not late for the boat check in and the race, despite this some of us nearly missed it. Adding to the excitement one of our boats lost the buoyancy bag which we only found out by failing the boat inspection. Rushing around borrowing a bag from the hosting club things were looking better.
Div 1 Phil Thorogood came 9th
Div 2 Zak Tarver managed to get 2nd place beaten by one a second! Ryan 17th with a D? Luca retired. In K2 Glenn and Zak Benstead took 2nd place. They were one of the lucky ones who didn’t have to negotiate a mass start.
Div 4 Amber Cox 18th. in K2 Dwayne and Rowan won their race leaving the rest of their wash hanging group behind, bringing top points for the club, and also appearing on BBC evening news article twice! Derek and Brooke 23rd.
Div 5 Lizzie raced up from div 6 to paddle with Zara in k2, and they stood the test together finishing in 7th place out of a mass of 35 boats.
Div 6 Archie Hynds was respectable 6th and in such a fast time that he got promoted to div 5.
Div 7 James Kitterling won his race with some spectacular finish, coming in sideways and almost losing his paddles. His recovering technique is second to none. In K2 Elizabeth and Beata got into trouble shortly after the start but with determination they caught up with the leading group and finished in 3rd place.
Div 8 K2 Wendy and Kellie also finished 3rd in their field, showing they are on the top of their division.
Div 9 Suzie Gannon 10th. The 2 boys Ethan Truett and Will short made their coaches proud by coming 2nd in their division.
We didn’t have a big group, only 20 paddlers but we were very enthusiastic and put maximum effort into the race although unfortunately the final result didn’t quite reflect it. Chelmsford won the Hasler trophy again.
