ROYAL MARATHON

We fielded our biggest entry this season at Royal Marathon on Sunday. Many thanks to those of you who supported our Hasler Marathon effort. Our team of 23 paddlers scored a grand total of 307 points… not yet sure on our position in the league table (watch for the official results).

In divisions 1 and 2 K1 (a combined race due to lack of entries in Div 1) we took the first 4 places with Ross, Phil, Luke and George, Stef was 4th in Div 3, Tim and Jenny W. 5th and 6th in div 4. A magnificent win from Callum in Div 5 (a combination of new boat syndrome and very hard work!) Steven took 7th place, having suffered a boat full of water in rough conditions. A very good performance from Zac who came 3rd in Div 7, while Mary was 4th in Div 9, just missing the promotion time.

All our doubles scored well. Elise, paddling with Emily Illinesi was second in 3 / 4 Wendy and Kellie in Div 7 K2 were in a head to head race on the line, just missing the win by inches.  Erica and Lucca did another sterling performance in 9 K2 and were beaten only by paddlers ranked above 9. They took 4th place in a race which included div. 7 and 8 paddlers. Callum is now Promoted to Division 4, and Zac to division 6.

Our next marathon outing will be to Wokingham on July 12th. This is out of our region but a very pleasant site, a beautiful stretch of river and another chance to improve your racing and get promoted… GO FOR IT!

MAIDSTONE MARATHON

Thanks to the 18 paddlers who supported the club at this event, all of whom completed the course and helped us to maintain our position in the Hasler League table.

Ross won Div.1 with Phil in second. We had a clean sweep in Div 2 Luke 1st, Glenn 2nd and Stef 3rd while Oscar finished 5th, an excellent performance in Div 3 (a guest appearance!). Tim came 3rd in Div 4 , Katie 2nd in Div 5.
Callum won the Div 6 race and Steven came 5th. Brooke 9th in Div  7, Amber 3rd in 8, Jenny Williams 3rd in 9 with Mary 5th.

Our only K2 was Lucca/Erica who put up a very impressive performance in 9K2. They led all the way to the turn, but with steering (driver!) problems at the buoy they eventually finished 2nd.

It was good to see some very aggressive racing from most of our younger paddlers. They certainly were fired up determined for promotion.

Our promotions for the day were :
Callum & Steven to Div.5, Amber to Div 7 Jenny Williams to Div 8.

ROYAL MARATHON NEXT WEEK: Please can we have an equally strong team for this one.
For those of you who have not yet completed 3 races this season, please note that there are only 3 races left in the series in our region:- Royal, Richmond and Tonbridge.

DON’T MISS OUT… WE NEED THE POINTS THAT YOU COULD SCORE. We need you to qualify to be in our team at the final.

2015 IFC Canoe Sprint World Cup

The 2015 IFC Canoe Sprint World Cup took place last weekend, 29-31 May in Copenhagen. Our Elmbridge paddlers had some excellent results.

Louisa Sawers came 3rd in the senior women K1 1000m.

Lani Belcher finished 2nd in K1 5000m while Louisa got bronze medal.

Lani and Louisa were part of the K4 crew that finished in 6th place in the women K4 500m.

In K2 500m race, Lani with Angela Hannah came 7th followed by Rebeka Simon and Jessica Walker in 8th position.

Congratuilations to all of them.
