How Do I Start?

Children’s Beginner courses are suitable for children over the age of 10 who are competent swimmers. A course takes place over four weeks, with two sessions a week, a total of eight lessons. Courses start in the first week of each month and are on Monday and Wednesday afternoons at 4 pm for an hour. The cost of a course is £40, payable at the time of booking.

Boats, paddles and life jackets are provided. You should wear shorts and t shirts (or leggings and long sleeved light tops in case of cooler weather), have sandals for walking to the landing stage and bring a towel and a change of clothing as you will get splashed.

After the initial eight sessions that comprise a course, you may decide that you would like to become a full member of the club. Assuming that you have made good progress during the course you will be able to take part in a suitable coached group. These take place on Monday and Wednesday at 5.15 and Saturday at 9.00. All paddlers are grouped according to ability.

If the coaches feel that you would benefit from more time with a higher coach-to-student ratio, they may suggest that you have extra time in a beginner’s session. If you decide that canoeing is not the sport for you, then that is fine. We are happy for children to try our sport even for a short time.

To register an interest in a course contact Diane Lawler email, with your child’s name and address. An application form and information pack will be sent to you.
